When treating termites you’ll have to make a major decision and decide – what is the best termite treatment?

Termite Control Companies vs DIY Treatments

Most people opt-in for professional help and it is usually the best choice, however this is not always the best course of action. Outlined below are some of the advantages and disadvantages of each to help you decide which approach to take.

Advantages Disadvantages
Termite Control Companies
  • Professionals should be able to do the job within 2 weeks or less from the first phone call being made.
  • Treatment should be very thorough and it’s unlikely you’ll have to deal with termites again for a while.
  • You can get insurance in case anything goes wrong and they appear again.
  • May cost up to several thousand dollars
  • Are at the mercy of some unscrupulous companies so you must be careful.
  • You need to check many forms and legal work to ensure you’re getting the right deal.
  • Whilst it can save you more money if you know what you’re doing, it can also cost you more if you don’t.
  • You may have to leave you home for a short period of time.
DIY Treatments
  • Can save you thousands of dollars in pest control fees
  • How effective you are will depend on the techniques and the amount of effort you’re willing to put in
  • By doing this properly you’ll learn to treat termites for the rest of your live.
  • Can be effective on small infestations.
  • You may do more harm to your home than good (if you don’t know what you’re doing)
  • You may not fully discover the full extent of the problem and therefore treatment may not be fully complete
  • There’s quite a level of danger so you must be careful as you’re playing around with some nasty chemicals
  • Can be ineffective on severe termite infestations.
